We (the Members of the Board of Directors of the Levi Jordan Plantation Historical Society) have written the following statement of mission to guide us in planning this project:

The primary mission of The Levi Jordan Plantation Historical Society is to preserve and interpret the archaeologies and histories of all of the people who lived and worked on this plantation after its inception in the mid 19th-century.

The secondary mission of the Society is to preserve and interpret the history of Brazoria County and the surrounding region, in order to complement the primary purpose and to offer a more thorough understanding of contributions of the people of this plantation and of this region to the history of Texas and the United States.

The tertiary mission of the Society is to utilize the public interpretation of historical and archaeological research to promote understanding and appreciation of the diverse histories of the people who built this plantation, this region, and this country.

How we are defining our terms:

Preservation includes the collection, acquisition, documentation, and conservation of the archaeological and historical materials associated with this plantation.

Interpretation includes the presentation and communication of historical and archaeological information, through a variety of media.

Research includes the recognition, investigation, and interpretation of the evidences of history and archaeology, and the scholarly pursuit and publication of knowledge supporting these activities.
